MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ Ibn-‘Abbas related that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, performed ‘umrah (1) four times: 1-The ‘umrah of Ḥudaybiyah (2). 2-The 'umrah of compensation in Thūl-Qi‘dah of the following year. 3- The 'umrah from al-Ji‘irrānah. 4- The fourth 'umrah was performed together with his pilgrimage (3). Footnotes (1): A voluntary short ritual visit to the Sanctified Mosque in Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. (2): The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, had set out for ‘umrah and reached Ḥudaybiyah, then the rulers of the tribe of Quraysh prevented him from entering Makkah. However, he made an accord with them, and agreed to return the following year to perform the ‘umrah as compensation. The first was counted as an ‘umrah because he and his companions ended their state of consecration (a state of sanctity for the rituals of pilgrimage), and sacrificed the sacrificial animals, although they did not actually perform the ‘umrah. (3): (Ḥajj) The pilgrimage to Makkah and Madīnah during the first half of the month of Thūl-Ḥijjah, which is the fifth pillar of Islam. ”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِى خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ أَبِى حَازِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُسْتَوْرِدًا أَخَا بَنِى فِهْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول ُاللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ما الدُّنْيَا فِى الآخِرَةِ إِلاَّ مِثْلُ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ فِى الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَاذَا يَرْجِعُ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ. وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِى خَالِدٍ يُكْنَى أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَوَالِدُ قَيْسٍ أَبُو حَازِمٍ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ.

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "The worldly life, compared to the hereafter, is like one who dips his finger into the ocean; let him look and see how much [water] he returns with." Click on ḥadīth to read more
